Companion Animal

Research has proven that DHA-omega-3 is an important nutrient for humans – now, a growing body of evidence is indicating that many of the same benefits of DHA omega-3 apply to companion animals as well!

Did you know?

  • In companion animals, DHA omega-3 is considered a functional fat because it participates in important structural and functional cellular processes.
  • In the brain and eyes of cats and dogs, DHA deposits heavily and is important for their proper development and function.
  • Shorter chain omega-3's like alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), commonly found in flaxseed and vegetable oils, do not efficiently convert to long chain DHA.

Benefits of DHAgoldTM

  • Due to the inefficient conversion of shorter chain omega-3s, a preformed source of DHA is recommended for companion animals.
  • A preformed source of DHA is particularly important in supporting the developing nervous systems of puppies.
  • Increased dietary intake of DHA in juvenile dogs has also been shown to support visual function and trainability.
  • Because of the benefits it provides, DHA is considered "conditionally essential" for puppies.
  • Higher dietary levels of DHA have been observed in dogs with more favorable dispositions and may support heart health and joint health in adult dogs.
  • In cats, a dietary supply of DHA appears to be conditionally essential for the proper accumulation of both neural and retinal DHA.
